My favourite bows
I have always felt a profound sense of admiration and gratitude toward the ancient makers — most of them anonymous — who were people of great humanity. They knew how to truly listen to the needs of the musicians who came to them, and they dedicated themselves wholeheartedly to offering thoughtful, practical answers to those needs.
Among the many original bows I have had the privilege of examining, some have moved me deeply — and it is precisely these that I have wanted to recreate, to the best of my abilities, and which I am delighted to share with you here.
Some of the models that follow, however, are not copies of originals — because, unfortunately, for certain periods or geographical areas, no surviving examples are known to exist, at least not to this day. These are therefore the result of a careful and considered process of comparing iconographic sources, treatises, and surviving artifacts.
In the list below, it is clearly indicated which models are based on original surviving pieces and which are the result of reconstruction.
I hope you enjoy them!
